sometimes cheaper is better
I have been digging this 7" tree made of tie-wire and plastic leaves. The base has a write up on it about some swamp guy who was in Louisiana making these and only these. It's called a dream tree and here's a quote from the maker "It doesn't do anything, just sits there looking pretty." Because of the way he balance each leaf in a wide loop, I have found that mine does quite a lot. The leaves move and shake with the slightest provocation. Walking by this thing starts up a near studio 54 of gold leaves flashing and reflections darting around the table.
That stone looks like granite from here, textured using a comb chisel.
dream trees in Louisiana
hey vintage damage
dream trees in the late 70's thru 80's were common to make in louisiana and i have no understanding why. I can remember my grandmother's neighbor (15 miles down the bayou where dogs are commonly eaten by alligators of various sizes) buying into this "gimmick". She made us all dream trees for xmas one year. I don't know the real name for the trees but I'm not ruling out that they are "dream trees."
I don't know their value but they sure are purty when the wind hits them:)
That's their value
Orleans: As the dude said "It doesn't do anything, just sits there looking pretty." Something that suggests these were the originals is that this has a poem that tells about how he got the idea from sitting under a tree and dreaming of gold. signed, "J.E. Tramel, Baton Rouge".
That's interested, what you said about it being a bayou craze. I found mine out here in L.A. Thanks much.
Lisa E: I will definitely check that "Swamp People" out.
