What about white painted bricks?
An architect friends of mine designed and built his modernist house in the early 60s.
The whole place is white painted brick both inside and outside with slated timber ceilings, very scandinavian in style and very beautiful.

thanks guys for all your input in turning a moderate house/shop into an interesting and creative process
it's not that I don't have the money or the creativity to do the same but sometimes I have 'writers block' and more importantly there are so many creative peole out there who can create faster and better that I ever could and this post has proven just that!
and yes if any of you come to Melbourne Australia drop me a line and we'll catch up even spend a night in the soon to be newly restored house

Neat find, and some nice suggestions for rehab. I've been watching for a couple properties like this myself to go up for sale in my town, one of them being a fabulously modern Montessori school, although I imagine the price on that building will be higher than usual, or more than I can pay at best. They tend to be enlightened, you know.

For all those still interested
Just an update
I've just started to renovate and am very excitied
Resigned from my usual occupation to complete it. I've been kicking the dust around inside for months now working out 'what is where'
I usually work in construction so it should be a breeze but entirely different when it's your own
That is of course unless the floods get me first.....oh well always wanted a houseboat

Will do
I don't think we truly understand our homes 'til we've lived in them hence why I've been kicking around the dust for a few months now, but I think I have it now.
Nothing worse than renovating and thinking 'shit I should have thought about that'
