So my girlfriend and I found this chair at an antique store in town. She totally loves it - it's perfect for her place, BUT it seems a little overpriced. So I turned to my old friend ebay, where I actually managed to find a (pair) of identical chairs. Just not in the condition (or quantities 🙂 ) I want. So I'm hoping someone here can make my searches easier by possibly clue-ing us in on who may've designed or manufactured this. Neither vendor had any information whatsoever, and the chair in the shop lacked manufacturer's marks...
Thanks,
Brian

Yeah...that's who they were attributing it to at the store as well (they also suggested Arthur Umanoff). I was pretty dismissive of it (I still am, of the Umanoff attribution) when they said it, chalking it up to wishful thinking. The base DOES resemble this chair fairly closely though (pic below, culled from Rago where it was advertised as a McCobb chair). I've been watching McCobb auctions for years though, and I've never seen this...I'm thinking it's gonna remain a mystery...officially at least. You're right though, it does resemble some of McCobb's work. Thanks,
Brian

I struggle
with the idea you've found one in a store and TWO on eBay and are asking people where to find one
If you love it, buy it !
If you have to buy more than one, sell the other !!

Right. She loves it. She...
Right. She loves it. She wants it. But it's not worth what they want for it in either location. I struggle with the idea that you can't identify with that position! 🙂 I was just hoping someone could identify it for me. She's currently finding ways to justify the expenditure (giving up cable and internet for a year, that being roughly the cost of the chair)...even so I'd prefer to save her money by finding a more appropriately priced version of this chair...that's all I'm doing here.

Selrite
These chairs are manufactured by Selrite and designed by one Richard McCarthy.
The second image posted by brbeard (from the Rago Auction catalog I suppose) is of a 1956 Selrite design as per Interiors March 1956 page 128.
The first image would seem to be a slightly later Selrite Design.
