Lunchbox has the right idea, make Jesus your friend, if you ever start a new job and you don't really want to be chummy with your co-slaves let on you're born again, the only risk is that theres a real nut job on site, in which case just get all competitive about it and they should back down or tell them you're catholic.

Even straight guys would be freaked out by that -- no ? Or am I even queerer than I thought ?
Tatting, young man, is lace-making . . . or it used to be, anyway. Nowadays -- who the **** knows !

Is 35 young? It used to be, has anyone seriously made lace by hand since the...long ago dinosaur time?
My Gran crocheted a lot and could knit, if I had a wife I'd make her knit and I'd make things from wood and that would make Jesus happy, wouldn't it?
No SDR you're not queer, its awful! I've been there and if you thought beard rash was bad....

I'm 32, living in Brooklyn, NY. Barely scraping by as an artist but I do manage to find a good deal on furniture from time to time. I particularly love mid-century Danish stuff, I tend to think about design the same way I do about art, I know what I like and I follow that, I also know bullshit when I see it. I love this forum, thanks to everyone for participating.

35 is young, although this is the oldest I have ever been. Female, based in UK & Ibiza part time 'dealer' in design (British post war & Danish/Scandinavian) but only as a means of enhancing/upgrading my own collections.
History graduate, mother of 2 babies and lover of a very good furniture restorer who swigged from a bottle of meths whilst stripping (a table)

I guess I've never taken the opportunity to introduce myself here. I'm Gene, in Seattle, 45, and collecting mid-century is just a hobby for me -- I'm a librarian by profession, though once upon a time I nearly became an art historian (nearly completed my doctorate, but so glad I bailed). I also collect rare soul 45s and I do some DJing, and I love cycling and classic steel frame bicycles ,but have had to sell off most of those because I have no room for them.

Hi, I'm Dan from London
I'm passionate about midcentury design, mostly furniture from Denmark, Italy and France. Still learning (like all of us!) and eager to know more. I occasionally buy and sell on Ebay, mostly to upgrade what I have, and sell on what I can't fit in the house. My long-suffering wife has to put up with the cluttered livingroom and trips to pick up new pieces.
As a day job, I work recruiting designers, visualisers and artworkers for London's advertising agencies. It's a great job, and is a good substitute for being a failed designer.

tktoo
54 year-old happily married father of two teenage daughters residing in a leafy, faux-rural exurb of Boston. Born-and-bred Masshole and art school refugee. Been working for museums and collectors for over 30 years in mostly technical capacities with specialization in proper care, handling, and display of items deemed worthy of keeping intact for future generations so that they may decide it's all junk and toss it out.
There is a special place in my heart for "antiques" dealers, used car salesmen, art gallery owners, and real estate agents.
Been a fan of MCM since I was a kid. DA forum is a nice respite from the sort of bickering with troglodytes on political boards that my dark side is fond of.

Might as well.
My name is Gunner. 34 years old living in post New Orleans. I play as an architect during the day and at night my life is filled with chairs. I am a chair hoarder. Most people have kitchens, living rooms, and dining rooms. I have a kitchen, living room, and a chair room. I can count 14 different chairs by Harry Bertoia, Charles and Ray Eames, and George Nelson. I own every base you can think of that fits my Kelly Green fiberglass shell...and I change the base every week. Also I am probably one of the very few people in the world today that owns over 2 tons of authentic Bertoia side chairs.

27 years old, studied painting in Ghent/Belgium, currently teaching drawing/painting/sculpture and working in our own graphic design studio. Collect mostly furniture from 1950 and onwards, with a strong focus on uncluttered design and strong use of wood.
I stepped into a woodworking class last year and will do so again the next.

oh well...
since I spend so much time here...
Live: Oregon
Work: used to. "retired" at 45 from corporate IS, now a stay at home while wife toils in academia
How I got Here: Bought a 1949 ranch. Needed furniture. Have always thrifted/estates sales but now with a purpose. Sell quite a bit as I find quite a bit and my house is not big enough by quite a bit.
Likes: while no expert I am a big fan of chairs, danish chairs. Lots of Danish chairs. I also LOVE lamps.
I really like enthusiasm and expertize. I find both here. Cheers!
