Nice chair, profile pic? A quick google says an extant Swedish IT/media group existed in 1978 by that name, similar font, same initials. Another chair on 1st dibs, seller says it was made for a compnay called Bra Bohag, some Swedish Scottish links, again a company by that name still exists and seems to sell a lot of vintage Swedish things, contact them? http://www.brabohag.com/?tag=swedish
The hunt continues
Thanks, Heath. I contacted Bra Bohag, a Scottish company that does business with Sweden. They had never heard of IDG. But they did give me the contact info of a Swedish magazine called "Retro" that they said might help me. I emailed them and got a response in Swedish, but if you press a button you get an automatic English translation. Cool. They're going to look into it. In the meantime, does anyone out there know anything about IDG?
The IDG mystery continues
I received an email back from Viveca Carlsson at "Hus & Hem Retro" in Sweden. She writes:
I have never heard of the IDG. Maybe it was a group of Swedish furniture manufacturers that labelled their products this way for the export market, but that is just a guess. I looked through a list of Swedish furniture manufacturers, but IDGs name wasn't there.
Very strange...
I just discovered
who made the chair I posted above. It's called the "Flamingo Chair" and was designed in 1955 by Thea Leonard for Nassjo Stolefabrik, Sweden. Mine is the only chair I found that had the IDG tag. Madeleine, did you find out anything about the possible West LA store?
BTW, the original upholstery on these chairs was black leather - very classy. It's beyond me why someone would recover it in brocade.
Found out the table was designed by Bendt Winge for Kleppes Mobelfabrikk (Norway). sold by International Designers Group? It looks like they made a few different models. the one I have is a section of an Interlocking set, as seen here on 1st dibs. http://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/tables/drop-leaf-tables-pembroke-tables... (not for sale) A lengthy post on etsy says this was designed in 1956. Kleppes Mobelfabrikk is still in business. That would date IDG as a retailer to the fifties... possibly?
I also have a piece with the label "Made in Denmark" IDG "International Design Group" I believe it is an elevator table and found a similar one but not exact. Mine has a metal hinge system to lower and raise the table. You can go from a little higher than coffee table to console table height. Would love if anyone had any info here is a photo.
