something about this seems odd - the marking - but maybe this is obviously a wegner design - the amateur hans wegner fan in me says something isnt right - that is where I need someone who is more familiar with his designs. Did he really design this? I have no interest whatsoever in purchasing the chair, but now that i have stumbled across this it is going to haunt me until I figure out what's the deal.
hah!
So I am not crazy! I thought that it would be more common to see a furniture maker's label not just the designers name on the chair... if you look at the additional auctions they have a supposed george nelson for herman miller piece of furniture - unfortunately I am really not familiar with his stuff so it doesnt scream to me fake like the wegner chair did, but look at the herman miller marking they show - it looks crooked and like a DIY job.... the strange thing about all this is that I never thought someone would try to put markings on furniture like this after the fact to mislead someone... I know how people love to put "saarning tulip table" on designs that are inspired but not authentic - but now are they going to start signing his name on the bottom?
Apart from...
being an horrible concoction of wood, steel and fabric, it is also a horrible falsification. Hans Wegner would never ever have allowed anybody to put his name on a piece of furniture this way. It is one of these sad moments when you find out that human beings not only have the capacity to prey on each other but also to do it in a stupid way.
how to report
Ebay will take action if they hear from the manufacturer of Wegner chairs. I don't know if this is Fritz Hansen, but in case it is, this is their page about counterfeits (not that this chair is a counterfeit):

thanks -
thanks for reporting, I am not a member of Ebay, so it's good to know things like this can be reported - but Ebay doesn't do much about it? One of the reasons I have been reluctant to get into ebay is because it seems dangerous to me... maybe in some cases it is? With these blatant fraudulent markings and all. But thanks for the replies - hopefully the auctions will be ended.
