Just wandered if one of you guys can help me date it
Just has the herman miller logo on it no other logo's or stickers
Also has the Herman miller logo an all the shock mounts
Thanks in advance

A happy person

do i see
shockmount bleed on the shell?
also, how come all the screw holes are corroded?
the epoxy job looks funky to me too
are you sure it's a "new old stock"?

nope came from a vintage collector
i bought 2 others shells from him with the the full herman miller logo embossed as well as a sticker
there was a bit of superficial rust the screwholes because it came from it's attic but i just tried a screw and it almost fits like a glove 🙂
As for the "bleeding"
i guess you mean the 4 darker spots but it's just the flash of the camera accentuating the density of the fibers there
but with the naked eye it looks spot on;

It has a small letter V. It is Vitra, Germany production.
70' probably.

how come there is a circular
score on the shell around the shock mounts? like i said, there is something strange to how the shock mounts were attached to the shell.

HM logo on the shockmounts is to be found on earlier Vitra chairs. It's a 60'- 70' chair. The pronounced shockmount areas are rather Vitra thing. Can't remember if they got bigger over time. Lack of wide shockmount locations might indicate that the chair is of later 70' production?

The sanded glue surfaces?
If I saw those on a US HM chair, I'd assume the shocks had been replaced. I've not seen the HM logo on shocks here, though.

Thanks for all the tips
The last tip about the herman miller fehlbaum production was really helpful
found a couple of pictures on ebay.de
they all seem to have the "sanded circular bits" that got some of you wondering
but the few chairs that have those type of shock mounts have different ages attached to them dating from the 50's to the 70's
So I would be grateful for some more info on the age of my chair

Thanks, very usefull
It seems that I have the same "package" :
- Shell with HM logo and a 'V'
- pale brown epoxy
- embossed HM shockmounts
- sanded circular bit
bought the chair in France, with a black x-Base. The seller declared the chair 'might' be from the mid 50's, according to the x-Base (he wasn't sure)....
I browsed the web for a week and he most useful information I found was on this thread, plus another source indicating that the german production of fiberglass (Vitra) started circa 60's or 70's...
