I've got two saarinen side tables w/knoll stickers. The laminate tops are in fine condition, however, the bases are scratched and faded. Does anyone have any ideas for refinishing the bases? Would going to a place that paints cars be an option?

Re 'painting' Saarinen tables
The factory finish on the tulip table is Rilsan, a brand name for a basic nylon polymer coating that's hard but still somewhat flexible. If you really need to redo the entire base an autobody shop may work OK. I've thought the people who do bathtub recoats (miracle method) might work well. If you just need to touch up a few chips and scratches I use a little epoxy filler to get it level then paint with a matching color and wet rub with 600 grit paper to match the smooth semi-gloss finish.

I have a new Knoll
Saarinen side table and dining table... Think the "bathtub refinish" idea is a keen one... Second option would be an auto finish shop... The "new" reslan finish is really high gloss and very white... I've noticed older ones appear to be yellowed... Hope new technology in finishes won't allow mine to end up that way...
