I was fortunate enough to pick up this Spear chair today. The lady that sold it to me was liquidating her mothers estate and said its exactly as it was when she was a child and it was the one chair the kids were never allowed to sit in so the frame of the chair is in great shape. It does need new straps and cushions because it appears it has not been touched since it was purchased. Now that I've given a relatively unnecessary back story I have a few questions about the chair. In doing some research I came across a pretty old thread on here that had the original sales add from selig, but mine does not have a selig tag just a "made in Denmark" stamp under the front lip does that mean anything? Also I was wondering what type of wood the chair might be, I know IKL used different things and while I am terrible at identifying wood still, I lean toward afromsia can anyone give me an idea if I'm right? And my last question is about the cushions, I've seen the chair with just a seat cushion as well as seat and back but never with a small matching pillow sized cushion, could that be original? Thanks in advance for any help!

Stained beech. The early chairs did not have Selig medallions. There will be a cinch tight seat frame under the cushion. (That is my name for it: there are holes the straps to through and get cinched tight against themselves).
The chair also has not seen any sunlight, so the "saddle" stain has not faded and turned greenish. If you keep it out of the sun for the next 50 years you will have a peerless museum specimen.
The cushions should have latex foam in the per the Selig catalog, in the very possible case you need to replace the foam. New pirelli rubber straps can be purchased on ebay by the foot.
Thanks so much Leif, how to fit so much information in what I can imagine is only a totally normal sized head! I have an abnormally large head just mostly empty. But yes the chair has the dowl tensioners, as far as the cushions go they are disintegrating pretty well leaving yellow all over. Do you have any idea as to the back pillow vs actual cushion thing?
