Recently saw three of these for sale on Craigslist for about $120 for a set of three. Then I saw two at the thrift store and got them both for $6.
Just what I need - more chairs 😛 I can't pass up Knoll, even the ugly stuff.
I've seen these described as "sled chairs", "shell chairs" even though they're quite unlike the classic shell chair. They ~do~ seem like a 90's officespace mutation of the shell chair.
They weigh a lot! Maybe 50 lbs. They are imprinted Knoll on the bottom, and have a Knoll materials tag with a December 1994 date.
Does anyone know what this model is officially known as?
Too funny.
Reminds me of the stainless-steel utensils made by "Inox" and "Rostfrei"...
"117-75" isn't a model number; it's a reference to the 1975 version of the California Bureau of Home Furnishings and Thermal Insulation's Technical Bulletin 117, which specifies the flame-retardant properties of upholstery foam. TB117 has been updated a couple times since 1975; the latest revision is from 2000.
