I have been reading this forum for awhile and have gained a lot of valuable knowledge from you guys in my quest to become more educated in modern design. However this is my first post because I would like your opinions on the chrome/aluminum table base that I have. I have googled until I am cross-eyed and have only found two different sources for my modern table base and one source says unknown designer made in the 1970's and it has a pretty high price tag on it.
After some further digging, I found a very similar base as mine except theirs has larger dimensions and is used for a large glass rectangular dining table with the matching chairs. This is a store in Southampton, New York that has it and they say that it is a rare Italian dining table from 1950. This store has this dining set displayed at the New York Design Center.
I have e-mailed both of these sources to find some further history on my table base and have received no answers. If I am to believe the source in New York then I have a rare Italian table base and am in shock. LOL! This is a table base that I bought at a thrift store with a round glass table top that I bought when I first became interested in modern design because I liked the look of it.
A lot of you here are very educated in modern design so I thought I would ask for your opinion. I am interested in selling my table and want to know if it is truly a rare piece. Thank you for your help!
