Hey community,
I have either 4 yards of Eames dot(blue/red) or Nelson pavement for trade. It would be great if someone had a good fabric for an Eames Sofa Compact that we need to re-cover. It will go in a room that contains a Knoll couch in original white/oatmeal wool fabric so any color should work.
Peace be with you
Dear
Lenox,
Your room looks quite lovely as is, with your sweet Knoll sofa and chairs upholstered in neutrals. Do you really want to mix it up with an Eames compact sofa? Especially in a non-neutral textile? I say sling the compact sofa into the den. It wouldn't mix well with the Florence Knoll sofa.
Just my silly opinion...
Thank you
After discussing the condition of the couch with its owner I have determined with the assistance of your comments to pass on this purchase.
Additionally, I should of mentioned that the couch is needed for this section of our space which is pictured. In a perfect world I would find someone who is willing to trade a Richard Schultz day bed for a set of six Eero Saarinen Arm Chairs with wooden legs. Lets see if that ever happens..... Blessings
Where is it known Barry
...that the sofa compact is not comfortable? I have lived with them on more than one occasion and have found them to be quite comfortable. Personal preference plays a part, and different body types obviously will find greater comfort in different sofas depending on the proportions, depth, pitch etc. I'm tall and I like a nice pitch to the seat on a sofa or lounge chair. I can't stand a totally flat seat. But the sofa compact with its higher back, good lumbar support, and comfortable recline I find very relaxing to sit in. The only criticism I think could be made about the design is that the fact that there are no arms and the seat is not that deep. That means it's not the best to lay down on for reading or watching TV if you like to be prone. If you want to do that, you will need a pillow to support your head.
I think it's a clean-lined, handsome, unpretentious, comfortable, versatile design which probably explains why it has been, and remains, so popular.
But that is just my opinion.

I think you're misremembering.
I was bored, so I searched... And of the 45 hits for "sofa compact" here, only 9 threads discussed its comfort.
Most of those threads involved you asking whether the Sofa Compact was uncomfortable -- or saying that you'd heard it was uncomfortable -- and then Pegboard or me or someone else telling you that you'd been misinformed and that it's actually quite comfortable.
In fact, the only person I could find who'd actually had a Sofa Compact and found it uncomfortable was LRF, who wrote back in 2007 that he'd bought one that was shot, reupholstered it, and then didn't like the way it felt.
