Hi, I'm looking for a specific fabric to restaure a chair from the 70's. I need an extensible fabric (some kind of jersey I think) with a bouckle texture (the link below shows a sample of the original fabric). I would like something similar. I searched in Kvadrat collections, but I could not find anything satisfying for now. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help,

Karoll

try pollack 'cuddle'...
try pollack 'cuddle' upholstery fabric. Looks like what I would term a boucle.

closer but not quite there
Pollack's Cuddle Cloth is nice stuff but it has no stretch. It's also not quite a boucle. It's more of a loopy pile woven of a fine yarn whereas a boucle is woven of a unevenly looped yarn that gives a texture that isn't a pile but IS loopy. (Just to put a fine point on it.)
Kvadrat's Tonus was used on a lot of the curvy mod upholstered furniture of the 60s but I think it has more of a smooth weave. It is still made and comes in a lot of colors.
If you really want a boucle (and I can understand why---it's a great texture), look for wovens as well as knits. A woven will have plenty of stretch if it also contains elastic in the seave. The elastic will be identified as Spandex or Helanca. Kvadrat just says the fabric is 90% new wool but other places that use it say that it's also 10% Helanca.
Kvadrat's site isn't set up to do very good searches. It's hard to even just browse their fabrics.
Good luck!

Thanks, but...
OK, thanks a lot for the ideas.
Pollack has an interesting selection. I like their BERGAMO and DUNE references, but on the sites it’s never mentioned if they have stretch or not. I’ll ask them.
I searched on Kvadrat website, they have a huge selection, but I agree their seach is horrible.
Their tonus is great for the stretch, but it’s not a boucle texture.
I also searched at Gabriel, Maharam, Haronsen without success.
Is there any other site that I should visit?
Thanks
Karoll

I found something
OK, I found The Classic Boucle by Knoll, this is exactly what I want, but I have no idea if it's 4-way stretch. Does anybody know this fabric?

No
But I find it really odd that anyone should offer a fabric for sale without listing it's content?
Pretty sure it would be illegal in the UK

new direction
OK, all the boucle fabrics I could find have no stretch, so I think that I have to forgive the boucle idea!
So now my main priority is to find a fabric that has stretch in 4 directions. For now I found Haronsen MIMER and Kvadrat TEMPO. Any other ideas?

If it helps..
Fabric can only ever be a two-way stretch.
(to do with the warp and the weft weave) all fabrics 'give' on the diagonal.

For now I found only 2 fabrics that are two-way stretch :

> Fanny aronsen MIMER
I cannot believe that no other references exist !

Maharam do some very...
Maharam do some very strectchy synthetics, but its like swimwear material and is horrible.
But Thanks for the other refernces, I had to stop making a piece becuase I couldn't upholster it...the fabric I was using was discontinued.
"Woven Image" might be able to help you aswell, they make great stuff.

The bomb of all fabrics
The only one you should be looking at is from Maharam, look up:
Pebble Wool
textile code 457401
under the search page. I don't think you will find better texture, quality, stretch, etc... Its not cheap, and sometimes you can find it for 20 a yard on ebay (90 per yard list)

Nice one !
Yeah! Maharam Pebble Wool sounds great (even if they dont have a great color palette), but are you 100% sure it has stretch in the 2 ways??

subjective choices
Hi
KA you have a large list of details, and you are not in a hurry. You should write Maharam and Knoll, or drop by a big city showroom, and ask for sample swatches of textiles, colors, etc... Too much stretch can be bad, if you are using it in cushions.
