I had a Lane
amoeba table, but I got tired of it and sold it. Here it is. While there are some similarities, it's not nearly as nice as the one I'm wondering about. The Lane table looks...well...wooden, while mine soars. Someone told me it's an Erno Fabry, but I don't think so. His style is very different. Yes, I do have the glass to it, but I took it out to photograph it.
I got this table, unbelievably, at the Salvation Army, which I haunt, looking to feed my coffee table habit. Ah, the thrill of the hunt...
Wow!
That mermaid table is gorgeous! I love the way her tail curves over the glass. Nice arm bracelet too. You've definitely got me beat for weirdness, but here's another one of mine.
Thanks, WaywardVintage, for the tip. I found the identical table on google too, but it wasn't identified. I would love to know. Oh well...
Any more great tables out there?
Here's one for you
I've posted a picture of this before but I don't think I owned up to building it.
I made it from an old slab of black walnut someone gave me that had some fairly big splits in it and I had almost sliced it up into nice neat boards at one point. The dutchmen are out of rosewood and the legs were turned out of black walnut also.
That's perfectly
lovely, Brent. A fine job; the tri-leg form with turned stretchers is remarkably rare, I think. Your legs are a subtle variation, and the butterfly Dutchmen are nicely chosen -- another seldom-seen shape ?
I use poly finishes increasingly. I'm happy to learn how to get a result like the one on your table. How many coats did you apply before the final rub -- and did you have to flatten your brushwork by block-sanding first ?
