As much as I love the Bouroullec Brothers that sofa doesn't strike me as one of their better pieces. I agree - I don't prefer the white painted metal. Also, is it me or is the angle slightly different on the back and front legs. It makes the fram look slightly off ...
I do love the Facett collection. Check it out here.

Is you is or is you ain't your sofa...
I've enjoyed the thread... I wish I had more time to visit this forum and throw in a few comments hither and yon... I've mentioned this sofa before but never got any comments on it... If I were to buy a new sofa and replace my nicely scaled Brian Kane Metro Inverness sectional the 57 Sofa would be high on my list... What do you all think? I would relish and revel in any of your comments... Pro or con...

I like it for the most part....
I like it for the most part. It is definitely an interesting shape. However, for my tastes it's at first a little over the top. I can see why the arms could still be considered functional. If you were lying down it seems like it's good head support for reading. I don't like the profile as much as the front view. It would seem to hide someone sitting there ... closing off interaction from the side.
If I owned this sofa I would want it in a very neutral color and in a primarily neutral room to tame it down some. I would even venture to say it might be nice on a oriental rug in a room full of books etc.
I usually prefer Juhl's more reserved pieces.
1957 Chevy fins
somehow that's the first thing that popped into my head when I clicked on the link. I'm with 'spiky' (sorry whitespike, couldn't resist) It's a little OTT for me. I still want my Citterio 'Harry' the slanted corved back on that thing is an architectural gorgeousness.
Guess those are the reasons I like it...
I live in an architect designed MCM house built in 1961... Some of the houses like mine have either vaulted tongue and groove ceilings or butterfly rooflines... Either way the "angle" is there... The ones with butterfly rooflines are just as OTT as the 57 Sofa and somewhat mimic the fins of a 57 Chevy... I think they all kind of work together sharing the same space in time and similar aesthetic... I like a little flamboyance now and again... Agree with "Spikey" (please forgive me Whitespike and thank Some1 for that!) that it should be upholstered in neutral fabrics... For me, I think it could work, but I do appreciate your comments... Any other opinions out there?

I have very poor computer skills. You seldom see the one I have, its not to say its rare maybe never all that popular? The famous Dallas art collectors Na$her$ had/have one in brown tweed. The Nasher Sculpture Center/Dallas by Piano is fantastic subtle/timeless/classic...the air inside is like vapor of valium...
I love No. 57!
It's one of my favourite sofa-designs of all time. It demands your attention in a luring kind of way. I wish I had one though I love the couch I have now very much.
It's designed by Peter Hvidt & Orla Mølgaard for France & Søn. The chrome/teak frame combination works beautifuly, the details are so nice and I can turn it into a bed by removing the back cushion.
I still think the 57 representative
of mid century modern design at it's best... It's definitely not an understated "safe" design nor do I think it was ever meant to be so... It's clear that Finn had fun with it's design... Doesn't mean it's intended as the ultimate solution for everyone (or even a few)... I would not label it any more sculpturally OTT than a Bertoia Bird or a La Chaise... It is, however, very Danish in appearance clearly as important as any of the other sofas mentioned in this thread... I'm glad it's controversial... In my eyes that gives it even more validity...
Hey whitespike? ...
You can go to eBay and search for Peter Hvidt. There are two auctions right now with the kind of sofa I have.
Mine's almost the same, although my sofa is a three-seater with attached armrests at both ends and one long backrest. I had it upholstered in a light grey (Kvadrat) and it works wonders with the dark teak wood.
