i recently purchased a peter hvidt daybed, just the frame, no armrests, from an antique dealer. i'm trying to find out if it is indeed an original piece. there is no stamp but everything about it looks original (brass insert nuts for the legs, clean welds and identical attachment on the metal for the backrest) and it has aged well over the years. the spring like bands are covered in an off white plastic. the wood kind of looks like walnut but i'm not very familiar with teak so it could very well be teak that aged more on the dark side? i was just wondering if there were any companies that made fakes or how possible you think this could be a knock off?
any info or advice you have would be greatly appreciated.

It should be stamped with a makers mark somewhere.
The mark could be a France & Son or France & Daverkosen metal tag which should be fairly easy to spot. Some of the earlier pieces where simply branded with the wording France & Daverkosen.
There is often the makers mark and the words Made In Denmark writen in gold somewhere on the timber, this can be hard to spot.
The legs should unscrew and the seat springs are usually brown.
