Hello all. I am seeking advice on the reupholstering of our Hvidt 'minerva' daybed/sofa. I scored some of that inexpensive Hallingdal 126 fabric on Ebay last month and now I am getting it upholstered. Our problem is- do we use piping around the cushions or not? I searched images and both methods were being used. \thanks in advance.

There is no "rule"
but modern pieces and outlooks often eschew such ornamental details as welts.
It's just personal preference, really.

I have 2
in original fabric
One is just seamed, the other seamed with seams pressed one way (down) and a single edge topstitch. Neither have piping/welting.

Practically speaking, though...
skip the welt. It'll look cleaner that way.

I've seen a lot of danish
cushions with no welt but with the seam allowances opened flat and topstitched on either side of the seam about 1/4" away. It makes a nice finish and looks very clean. I do them this way quite a lot.

welt
Thanks to all
Spanky- I like your idea, but I can't convince my wife. We'll go with the plain seam.

Spanky...
I was wondering if it would be possible for you to post some photos of the different ones you have done. if you happen to have them. I find this topic very interesting and know very little on the subject of upholstery. I've been doing searches but keep getting directed to sewing tutorials on top stitching. thanks again. 🙂
