H.moon: EFC catalog puts it at $142 in 1960. The papa bear is 148, by comparison. This is more or less as high as the prices go except for some of Aasbjerg's own solid teak ca pieces.
So, yes this was a very expensive table.

seating capacity
I can't seem to find too many pics with this table together with chairs. The few I've seen have only 4 chairs around it (or a bunch stacked on top). Seems like it would fit 6 smaller chairs. Was there a specific chair designed to fit this table?

There wasn't a chair design to go with the table as far as I know.
The table would sit six comfortably, eight at a squeeze.

Just picked up one of these tables. This thread combined with local availability was too much for me to resist. The Ion chairs will be getting a battlefield promotion but I guess I'll need to start looking for chairs too. So it goes...
