I have a related question:
I have a rosewood (veneered) diplomat desk which has watermarks and many light scratches. What is the best way for me to protect the surface after I get it re-finished - should I get it spray varnished, or is that too drastic?

Have you considered
a protective sheet of glass?
Seriously. A desk gets used differently than a credenza; unless your desk is purely decorative, it'll soon be scratched, stained, and dented unless it has a glass top.

nah you guys have got it all wrong, what we need to do is dilate time in order to preserve this fantastic bit of Brazilain rainforest...so what I proppose is you ship it very very very very very very quickly to my house, at near light speeds and relative to you it should...okay thats a bit confusing, just encase it concrete.
