Hello all, it seems that like myself, many of us know way too many details about some of these classic modern designs. Here is a test!
A sizable set of 670 parts has joined me and I have been left with many sets of armrests, which have leather in awful shape. There are also a few fiberboards with down fillings, though no usable leather. As I have a couple of chairs missing armrests (both in black leather, with down fillings, from early 60's), I was curious as to whether anyone knows where and how I could get the exact type/color/grain/gloss leather used on them. It appears that the 60's chairs were a semi-gloss leather and the leather was supposed to be glove leather. One way or another, I have pristine examples that can be sent out to match, but who should they be sent to? If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them!
A fellow collector had suggested sending something like an armrest to tandy leathers and have them match it. Does this seem reasonable? Has anyone had a similar experience with their own pieces? I would love to end up with armrests that blend in with my vintage cushions rather than standing out like a sore thumb, as some recent Herman Miller armrests would (more of a matte leather).
Thank you!
