Yeah yeah .. every one knows Eames lounge chair is the best, and you would value it $3500-5000 in good vintage condition. But since the fake one has come up in the market, it always put me off... Have if ever wonder if ELC was not designed by Eames or produce by HM or vitra? How much would you value it? How much would you value a well-designed chair if you dont know the history or its background or its designer? Would you be fair to value it? How much would you value this chair?

Hi Builder, its hard to say...
Hi Builder, its hard to say without touching them, first off I'd look at how those legs attach, weather they are huon or hoop pine, it looks odd. Then I'd feel for (in order of preference) a plywood shell, steel rod and straps and then that hard expanded polyureathne shite.
They have been re-upholstered by someone competent but who couldn't see that jigsawing out a circle of foam for the seat cushion was the lazy mans solution, it looks terrible. There is also some lumpiness running along the top edge.
If you love them pay as much as you want, $ price is irrelevant. If you want to invest I'd say $250.00 each maximum.
It an interesting question you raise, I've walked past a lot of anonymous stuff recently but don't really regret it, it doesn't re-sell well unless the joinery and timber is obviously top-notch.
Its sad but true that many people who think they are visually literate are really only good at reading labels and catalogues.

The market sets the value.
If it is to cheap it gets snapped up by a dealer/private in the know.If it is to dear it remains unsold till the right price tag gets put on it.

Hi Builder,

Hi Builder,
I answered in haste and then reread your actual question.
I suppose to really answer your question you have to come at it from the point of view of the original owner becoming the seller because otherwise if you yourself have bought them recently then you at least have a point of reference.
I guess in order to settle on any price for an item you have to do lots of research to try and guage if what you have has a known resale value or if it is unique/unknown,then I guess its a case of equating it to similar items for sale and what you think the local market can take.
So to sum up I thing a price of £1,000,000 each is a fair price 🙂

You are all right ... I ...
You are all right ... I own several un real chairs that really never saw the light of day , that i think are so unreal one is a
lounge chair that i converted to a executive chair for my office Desk with casters,
I could never find who designed it but it is truly one of the best things i own, as for comfort, I put casters on it and saved the base for if i ever want to sell it i can sell it in it original condition, chairs that no one has any idea who designed them makes it super hard to assess a value,
This one i paid 300.00 then 250. to redo in leather and 230. for a wood coasters so there you have at least $780.00 before you know who it could be .
but if you like it don't matter what it cost, as the commercial for master card goes PRICELESS,

Killian, i ve just bought...
Killian, i ve just bought the chairs, and yes i do have the reference of the chairs, but the point is people value this thing by the look of it. Whitespike, the legs are timber and attached to the frame by steel rod.
HP, the frame IS NOT plywood, .. amazing huh? the chair is very light, the frame is only on the base of the seat and the top of the curve..

Well, if I investigated them...
Well, if I investigated them and they were built well, I would feel okay paying around $400 each ... and would feel like I got a hell of a deal at $250 each. Keep in mind, I tend to be a bargain hunter!
The other thing is people would tend to compare the price with the availability of similar designer chairs. For instance, the Saarinen upholstered armchair often goes for as little as 350 in good shape. It's relatively the same size, upholstered, and probably in the same realm of comfort level. For those really desiring a name, that would come to mind.
However, I like to mix designer items with unique items too. In the end it depends on the buyer.
There is a place in Austin called "Mercury." Very high priced items. Many of the pieces remind me of this. There is a pair of orange chairs that were completely reupholstered and the wood base repainted in glossy white. I don't remember the price, but I think over $1000 each! There is no designer name attached that I know of. So it does depend on the market you are selling to.

The chair is designed by Grant Featherston, yes the most popular,
god of furniture in Australia.
the name of the chair is 53 Elastic
Easy chair. HP, if you have the book
you will find it there.
Availability: very rare, less than a handful
I think it s now 'not that good' since i paid much more than your guesses.
hiks...
yes, i paid premium value for these

It certainly is tricky, some famous things I'd walk right past (saarinen tulips, le corb chaise, hate 'em) in favour of good anonymous work.
Did you get your sofa shipped from Denmark? Was it expensive?
