OK, so I'm sending in my Eames Lounge chair shells to be refinished and have the veneer repaired in a few spots along the edges. But that means I'll need to somehow remove the long, rectangular Herman Miller labels on the seat bottom and ottoman.

Any tips on how to do this? It's not the end of the world if they get messed up, but it'd be nice to be able to reapply them. I'm guessing I can just use contact cementing or something to reattach them, but how can I get them off without ruining them?

Thanks!

adhesive removal
I would use MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) to remove the label. Rather than contact cement (wrong product) a better idea would be 3M spray 77. Both of these products will work without damaging your label.

Ark,
I know MEK works well to get off the gunk left behind, but it will work with the sticker still on there, too? I've never used it for that. It won't damage the label at all?
I just wipe it on/saturate the area and then the label will peel off?
Thanks !

MEK
I would find a similar label on something that is expendable and test the MEK to insure that there is no problem (with the inks). Yes, saturate the label (a paper towel soaked with MEK wiped over the label surface) and let it stand for a few minutes, then carefully remove the label starting from a corner. Once again, do not use contact cement to apply the label. That product is best used for bonding laminate or rubber to a substrate. I hope this helps.
