I'm out of work for a short time with an injury and have often thought of starting a new thread on our favorite places to shop in our home towns and since I have a little time to kill, here goes. First let me say I am in no way financially connected to this shop so I gain nothing from this. My guess is there may be other folks in the general area who haven't visited this place and in todays economy I'm in favor of anything to help out the small businessman or woman!
I also trust Ronn in his descriptions of the items he sells and feel he has a great deal of integrity...

The store is called Futures Antiques and has been around since the early 1990's.
It's located at 3824 Granby St. in Norfolk, VA and is owned by a guy named Ronn Ives who just really knows his stuff... I'm just going to post a link and let his site speak for itself. Click on the shop tab and pick a category and enjoy.

There is also a category of photos of homes of some of his customers....

This shopkeeper seems like a thoroughly good egg,
I like the fact that there's a "FREE" category-- some things aren't salable, but what lover-of-vintage is cold-hearted enough throw out a chipped piece of 60 year old Fiestaware?
If ever in Norfolk, Va, I'll pay him a call.

Come on people, let's share
Let's not keep our favorite shops a secret folks, even the second hand stores could use some advertising! Where do you find your best deals? Are we not a community?

There's probably an inherent reticence to share one's favorite secondhand shop
On the one hand, it's in one's interest that their favorite store gets enough business to thrive; on the other hand, every other person who shops there is potential competition who might acquire that one-of-a-kind object that may have instead been yours!
My only secret over the years has been to hit the big, well-known thrift shops with tedious regularity. I'm way too cheap to shop the "educated" NYC secondhand market-- I can only press my nose against the window panes.

Yes
William,
I too subscribe to the regular visits to the second hand stores. After a while you can almost sense where the goods are going to be. I still think there are some antique stores that aren't overpriced and come up with some interesting items out there but I hear what you're saying about keeping those to yourself and out of your competitors sights. Ever watch someone pick something up you were heading for and try to act like your not spying on them? Such a cut throat world we live in. I feel dirty...

I talked to her and she likes mid century modern , John the owner says she comes in once a week and buys great stuff. she told me she had just bought a Edward Wormley dining room set. and she had a large Warrren Plattner chair in blue. Who would figure that she goes for that look. yea Bushs !!!!
