What is the history of production of this high back Eames chair. Furthermore, if I removed the fabric would I encounter a difficult refurbish of just the fiberglass underneathe. Thank you

Yes
You will need to strip the foam and then add a top coat. Also, there will be hole(s) in the seat.

Loose Cushion Armchair
1971. By this time the production of the upholstery was done by vaccum sealing the fabric to the chair, and injecting foam between the shell and fabric.
According to the Eames Office no Herman Miller catalogs show any evidence that the chair was offered unupholstered, but the Eames Office has an example of one such chair.

Upholstery
Are you suggesting that I should leave them as they are? Perhaps I will consider having them reupholstered. Thank you for the suggestion......

Question
What top coat is suggested if I remove the fabric: Linseed oil, Penetrol, or a standard poly? If the latter what type of poly?
Additionally, what do I use to safely remove the foam without damaging the shell? Thank you

Additionally
the Eames office list this as being from 1971, however, the tags underneathe state that they were delivered on 0369. How could this be possible? Was there possibly a two year delay in releasing the product to the public? Hmmm....

One of many
questions related to this thread. What water free solvents does one use on these chairs which are coded S?
I have googled for the past hour and the only results that I can find are related to the actual furniture cleaning companies. Any advice?
