Hi Everyone,

I'm now using 2 of those shells in my living room and I'd prefer to have a lower base.

1) did anybody every just cut them shorter (like 2")?
2) what are the original shell bases that are lower?
3) are the lower bases a bit shorter on the back then front compared to standard size?

Thanks

Lounge bases
LAX, MAX, and LAR bases are all lounge bases which are lower than standard height and more reclined.
Why did you put a stacking base on an arm shell? Did it come that way?

I used the original base for a side shell and have momentarily used the stacking for this one. That's why I wouldn't mind trying to shorten it.
Thanks for the info
Julien.

pads?
Is the pad on the chair something you added? I'm desperatly trying to find some to cover bolt holes on a few of mine!

I bought them with the pads....
I bought them with the pads. I don't know if it's original (I guess not) but it's very comfortable.
If you know how to work with fiberglass (I know of it through skateboarding), I think you could make one quite easily:
- Put something on the seating part of the chair (thick plastic)
- Put a layer of fiberglass cloth
- Put resin on top (use a hardener)
- Put another layer
- again resin
Then you just have to cut it to the size you want and put some padding and your favorite cloth on top.
After you can use the holes you hate for your screws.
The only question I would have is how to include an insert for your screws.

sounds like you have a good business idea there, I'd be happy to give you feeback on the prototypes you'd make for me 😉

As I said, the only problem I...
As I said, the only problem I see is in the insert. Holes on various chairs are random => what's the right placement?
If the base is not mounted on shock mounts but the shell has the insert then we could place an insert at exactly the same location.
The other possibility is sheets of wood veneer that would be glued to hold the chair's shape. In that case it's also easier of the insert.
Let me think about it (I also have a vinyl chair that has ripped at the seam for which I have done a cushion but it's not super nice) and I might do a prototype in the next few weeks for my chair first 😉

surprised
I'm surprised that there isn't some sort of nice, loose pad out there for this situation. I have several chairs with bolt holes, I've found pads at IKEA that were decent and glued grippy shelf liner to the bottoms...

So I've taken off the pad...
So I've taken off the pad for the first time and yes it's fiberglass with inserts between layers. I guess 3 to 4 layers.
The problem is that this is a very small market (HM only for the shells with holes). That's why it will stay with one off solutions.
