Tired of Herman Miller greenwashing, corporate double speak
This is so typical of Herman Miller; they always change the story to fit their new promotional angle. For years they've been dissing the use of Fiberglass and now they are claiming an SMC dry binding method is any different than the old way? It's the same process just using premixed resin-fiberglass compounds so they don't have to make the actual Fiberglass molds like the originals. Saves them time and money, not emissions.
They are using the same method that makes fiberglass parts for cars, which is no cleaner or sustainable than the old fiberglass molds and presses. What a load of bull. At the end of the day, they increase production and sacrifice quality. These won't have the same look and feel as the vintage chairs unless they make it the old way.
vintage is overrated
I've wanted a nelson bench for years, searched high and low for a reasonably priced one. finally i broke down and ordered a new one through our local herman miller dealer. the bench was built (for me), signed and dated 60 days ago. it is gorgeous and no patina at all....yet. i can't hardly wait to get that spanking new white arm shell and wear it out my damn self.
p.s. that couch is fine mark, looks comfy.
chairs are here
The March DWR printed catalog shows the new fiberglass chairs by Herman Miller. March 3 they will be available. Herman Miller did file suit against Modernica last week about fiberglass chairs (they called them a "recidivist infringer.)"
Here are the eight colors:
