I just purchased a desk today - it's huge! - and I'm not quite sure what I have. It has a Herman Miller label on it and the closest I've found online is the Burdick table: the frames look identical, but the Burdick has a glass top and mine is wood (very thick, heavy composite, perhaps, with veneer). Mine is nine feet long (with no gaps between the top sections). I'll try to figure out how to post some photos here. I have a bunch of questions about it and any information would be very welcome.
1. Did or does Herman Miller make the Burdick with a wood top, or is this called something else? The seller said this design was from the 1970s--is he right? (He also said the top is solid wood, but I'm pretty sure it isn't.)
2. How thick is the veneer (assuming that's what it is) on top? Is it safe to sand it for refinishing?
3. Is there an easy way to replace the key to the drawer lock or to replace the entire lock?
4. Is there any place one can obtain the original owner's manual/instructions for the desk? Can one still purchase components for the desk?
5a. What is its approximate value?
5b. The seller is also selling a table (no drawers) with the same base (long beam on three-star feet). He apparently found this second base with no top and had a laminate top custom-made for it. How much might this be worth? Shall I go back and buy the table, too?!
As you can see, the desk has captured my imagination. Any information or advice will be much appreciated. This morning I was heart-broken when a gorgeous Florence Knoll desk sold to someone else at a good price before I could get it, and I bought this Herman Miller piece an hour later without quite knowing what I was getting (but it did make me feel better).
Thanks,
David

update on burdick desk by herman miller [and apology]
Thank you, Tilanus, for the information! I've spent the last hour trying to get the photos posted on Yahoo, without successs, so those aren't available yet. But I found answers to some of my questions at the Herman Miller web site (and so I apologize for posting them here prematurely).
Now that I know the prices of new components for the desk, I am wondering anew whether any one in the Columbus area is interested in a Beam and Double Base Assembly for the Burdick/Herman Miller desk. (The custom-made laminate top could be discarded in favor of authentic components--see my post from yesterday about the companion piece that is still available for the "Herman Miller desk/table" I purchased, and see the Herman Miller web site for product descriptions, brochure, and price list.)
