So a buddy of mine gave me a wall unit that he claims his aunt got from herman miller after working there for soem time. As you can see the piece is not complete as I know it is missing at least the wall mounts. My first question is, is it Herman Miller? My second question is, is it possible to find the missing wall mounts? Any info would be helpful, model number, similiar wall unit pics etc.
They are CSS
which stands for 'Comprehensive Storage System' a vertical shelving system from the mid-1950's through the early 1970's.
This system had vertical poles that either were attached to the wall - and the shelves were connect to the poles,
or
the shelving was 'floating 3" off the wall and the poles were in front and secured by those stablizers you have without the hardware to attach them to the poles you don't have.
Complicated? You bet, but if you had enough pieces to create an installation, you'd have a treasure.
Get Ready
Components for the CSS system are crazy expensive, well at least for a normal guy like me. A shelf is usually $150, mounting clipsx4 are about $50, and more elaborate components anywhere from $3-700. For that reason I haven't bought any new goodies, since like you I got mine cheap.
