Of course, the Eames bucket...
Of course, the Eames bucket of chicken won't have eleven herbs and spices, and will cost you about $57 more than the Colonel's bucket, but it will be worth it.
Slightly crisp, totally unoriginal.

hilarious......
"SO when they run out of Eames stuff to sell that they designed they just start selling stuff they like?
Next, there will be the Eames house bucket of chicken. You tear off the breaded skin to reveal the baked-in Eamesian dot pattern on the meat."
great post..... i quite enjoyed that !
it seems weird that HM would try to sell tops....... especially since eames never designed tops.... plus i wonder where they are made ? HM really should leave the accessories to vitra.
seriously, i wonder who designed these tops ? they look kind of like they were extrapolated from the eames walnut stools.
if HM wants to do a "select" piece how about the catenary collection from nelson ? nelson sling sofa ?
and for the record they really botched the cowhide release last year by not using rosewood and charging $2k for a walnut lcw with cowhide.....

I think it's pretty obvious
That Vitra will be the manufacturer/supplier of these tops.
That would be my guess anyway.

If this particular top....
If this particular top is a replica of one that the Eameses collected on their travels, I'd like to know whether Herman Miller is licensed by the original top-designer's estate to produce it.
And speaking of which... Is there some Appalachian family receiving royalties from sales of the Eames Office / Herman Miller / Vitra knockoff of the House Bird, or did those companies just steal the design?

To make some grand statement...
To make some grand statement about a future product coming out, only to learn it's an expensive top is akin to winning 5 dollars on a lottery ticket.
Seriously - they should blow minds. Why not release the Kangaroo chair?
SWhatcha wanna bet that they reissue the leg splints...

Yes
I was implying tops in my previous post as well....
Leg splints... doubt it. Eames Office has too many they are trying to sell first.

honestly...
I'd love to see the Kangaroo chair...but I don't think I'd expect to see it for a limited run production. If they brought it back, they'd want to keep it in production because of the cost of updating it all to meet current standards. I doubt tooling for the Kangaroo chair exists, however I'm sure the sling sofa or tray table do still exist since they ceased production on those within the past decade. Another option would be to import more Vitra branded things...such as offering the Nelson daybed for a year, or the Lafonda Del Sol chair or table. Maybe they didn't do as well last year, so they cutback costs of development...that's all I can come up with. Lets hope next year its something better.

You know, you're absolutely right about that
Herman Miller could never (and would never) put a complicated piece of furniture back in temporary production through their select program, nor should they.
The first piece (the Eames chair) was already in regular production and all they had to do was to idhere the fur cover to the existing chair.
I don't blame them; they probably can make a handful of these tops easily too.
I too would love to see the Kangaroo chair put back into production, but remember, many Nelson fanatics consider that chair kinda ugly (not me).

Guess I'm in the minority,
But I think these tops are great and would love to have them. I can understand them being viewed as very anticlimactic, but they're cool and I love walnut.

Okay, I just looked at the page last night, finally.
These tops should not be viewed as "EAMES" related products or designs whatsoever, or any classic Herman Miller product for that matter... So just take them at face value. They look nice, but will certainly be overpriced, like most design objects nowadays.
"The Walnut Spinning Top Set was designed by New York City design studio, KleinReid. The duo, known for their original sculptural porcelain design, were the ideal fit for the 2009 Select project. Check them out at: "
