What is the best way to polish brass? More specifically, how do I remove old darkened fingerprint stains from the surface of a polished brass lamp?

While I do like my objects with a bit of patina, I don't particularly enjoy such direct references to the previous owner. Any help would be appreciated, as always.

brasso + 2 cotton rags (one to clean dirt and one to shine)followed by loads of rubbing is the best solution and a clear lacquer if you dont want to have to shine it again for a few years....otherwise send it to a brass polisher...here in Ireland its very cheap to get stuff polished.
