Olive/coffee table dilemma
Hi Olive,
After reading your posted message about wanting a Noguchi table, I say, Go for it! I have a Noguchi coffee table & it is very beautiful in my space & I like the sculptural quality of the base.
Just keep in mind it's a fairly large piece of glass in case your space is limited.
I just couldn't do it
I was on the fence but I really decided that I would find it trite after a bit because it's such an overexposed design. That was my whole original dilemma, it's lovely, but it's expensive and it's everywhere. I didn't want to spend a lot for something I could very potentially tire of quickly. So I got something inexpensive and something I could modify myself if I want to reinvent it.
I got this, from CB2, it's called the Paperclip table and it reminds me of a lot of MCM shapes. The top is just veneered MDF but the metal legs are quite sturdy and well made so I can make a new top someday.
Nice choice
Steel rod furniture is elegant and functional, and if you tire of the new table you can always trade up to a bright and bold table by Arik Levy.
Thanks for your thread because Its got me thinking coz I need to replace my coffee table too. I have also been looking for a stylish vintage bookcase within budget for the past 5 years, but alas the search continues. Enjoy your new coffee table. 🙂
That tall Levy cafe table
is awfully reminiscent of the Vignelli Paperclip table, isn't it?
The low table looks a little more original, though.

I really like the idea of...
I really like the idea of using two Saarinen side tables with the sofa. It would be a nice contrast and not be bulky. Also, I really liek the Saarinen side tables that have the white pedestal bases and rosewood tops. You were mentioning wanting a white top with wooden edges. How about a white base with wood top instead?
Knoll website link..
Hi Fastfwd..thanks for posting the link to the Knoll website.I especially liked the photo of the paper clip table/ bertoia chairs.
I've admired those chairs over the years but never had space inside my place until now.. the paper clip table would be a great addition to my furnishings..combined with the bertoia chairs for my courtyard patio. Of course I'm sure I'll choke on the cost.
