I just inherited this wall unit (photograph taken at my grandmothers) and I was thinking of hanging it in my condo. However, i was wondering what it is worth and if I should sell it. It is teak and says "PS Systems Danish Furniture Made in Denmark, Randers Design No. B 3099" on a sticker in one of the drawers. A friend put me onto this website and recommended that I ask.
Help is much appreciated - picture to be attached
If you follow
e-bay for a few months under 'danish wall unit' you will find similar ones
listed. They bring anywhere from 800-1500. Yours has all the elements that
most look for in a danish wall system...desk, magazine shelf etc. Another unit
designed by Poul Cadovious, listed as Cado, is much more desirable and often
reaches 2000.
I would hang on to it. Nice unit. Not terribly valuable but solves lots of storage
issues. Very well made and it is from your family. You may regret selling it.
Just to confirm as through...
Just to confirm as through Googling the Cado system had come up many times, that PS and Cado are not the same unit or company and this was actually produced by a different company? I guess I can't seem to find the difference between Randers and Cado?
CADO versus PS
Hi there
Cado units were much more superior in finish and design compared to the PS system although they both perform the same function.
The system is called PS system from the founder of Randers Møbelfabrik Preben Sørensen.
I had the pleasure of dealing with his daugher a few years ago after he died.
The main reason I personally dont like the PS is the use of plastic veneers on the front edges but thatwas more to do with the preassure from vendors to make it cheaper.
Just wondering....
Question for you all, this is more of an interior dilemma than a "how much is it worth". I have a chance to acquire a really nice looking wall unit (I think). Small desk, shelves, mag. rack what do you guys think? I'm just not sure where this would go, since I already have an office. Would this look out of place in a living room, or bedroom. Any suggestions? Thanks.
They're appropriate for any room
since they're just shelves, storage, and tabletops; after all.
I have a skinny space between two windows (in my bedroom) where I've put a single "bay" (as Robert refers to a two-standard set up) consisting of a desk and four shelves. Extremely handy.
Don't feel limited to installing the system as one big chunk somewhere-- breaking it up into two smaller systems is as easy as acquiring a single extra vertical standard.
Cado bits and pieces, for instance, show up on Ebay regularly.
