I saw this chair in a store window near a cellphone store in Los Angeles. I tried to purchase it straight out, but was told nothing in the store was for sale, but that everything was on eBay... Shades of the gag in "40 Year Old Virgin". Anyway, it turned out I was the sole bidder and got it for roughly $125, basically nothing.
The leather is supple and of very high quality, and based on some (very) slight speckling of the chrome, I would imagine it was reupholstered at some point. The wood bars are solid pieces of what appears to be some sort of tropical cherry-like hardwood. The tan portion visible beneath the seat cushion is canvas. Everything is in such good shape that hazarding a guess as to the age is difficult... but I would assume 60's or 70's.
The chair and cushions are devoid of any labels, stickers, engravings, etc. which could shed any light on it's origins.
Does anyone have any idea who designed it, and who manufactured it? The overall form is sort of Baughman-esque, but I've never seen anything from him that uses multiple chrome bars like this... (if the pics are too big, click on them for a full view)
