Is it signed?
There's a variety of ceramic lamps similar to this made by a certain ceramicist (I believe his name begins with "A", but that's all I can remember...) that seem to fetch a few hundred dollars per, on Ebay. If it were signed, there'd be an incised signature toward the bottom, above the wood base.
(But, to MY taste, junk. To each his own--)

Do you think the base is original?

Yes I think it is original. It fits together well. Couldn't find any signature on it.

junk!!!!!!!!
(if you edit your post again, my opinion will not make sense)
The lamp fits a thrift store category of fun 50's kitsch. Shockingly collectable.
Rebellious. 'How to make your mother's eyes bleed' in your first apartment
after college. In minty condition, with a shade covered in clear plastic, it may
bring 50-75 at auction.
It could use a bit of updating. How about Pantone 15-5519!?
Shouldn't affect its value.
Matt or gloss? Huh...can't decide.
Of course you would lose the matchy-matchy with the brick.

It's
junque. Nice looking and cleaned up, I could see it for sale in a 'boomerang modern' shop, but not an important designer piece.

I detest kitschy "modern".
I'm sure many here have had the experience of meeting someone who claims to be a fan of modern design, and then when you see their stuff it's the pink flamingo and boomerang variety. (Ugh... they meant THAT sort of 'modern'!)
It's all the more horrible because it's concurrent & often confused with what I hold dear.

Or, maybe I find it especially loathsome
...because I kinda liked it when I was a young idiot. It serves as a reminder.
