Quite a few years ago, I bought this exact bench from someone on craigslist. It's sitting at the end of my bed and I recently gouged my shin in the middle of the night on it and was considering selling it. But then I started doing research and I wonder if it's worth keeping? I'm not up for making a huge profit -- I really enjoy interesting, unique pieces. Keep, sell...either way I'd love to know what I have.
These images from 1st Dibs are better than anything I could capture. Legs, design and finish all the same. There are no markings that I can see, but this sucker is heavy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Yugoslavian?
Thanks for your reply. How are you able to determine that? I always thought Danish, possibly...

Frame looks like striped...
Frame looks like striped mahogany and the screw-on legs look like some kind of stained fruitwood in the photos.
Construction doesnt look very highend.
My guess would be most likely American or possibly Yugoslavian as Peter pointed out.

Just a feel... Assumed you ar...
Just a feel... Assumed you are in the US (craigslist), and most of the benches of this type that I have come across here are Yugoslavian. I have a similar, non-extending one in the hall that has a very faint stamp underneath - no maker, just 'made in Yugoslavia'. My kids both sit on it in the morning and tie their shoes before leaving for school.

Bench in the US
Yes, it was bought in the US. I didn't pay a whole lot for it. From what I remember, possibly $50 - $75?
It's very sturdy and has some metal on the underside. I really appreciate all the responses, so far! If anyone has anything to add, please do.

Imagine my surprise
at finding this impressive illustration in the middle of a book about a multiple-homicide case from 1970. The table -- which isn't identified in any way beyond this drawing -- puzzled the detectives because, although it was alleged to have been upset during a violent home invasion, they couldn't duplicate the way it came to rest, on its side (as shown). In 100+ tries, every time they knocked it over the bench came to rest upside down.
The Nelson bench, with its tapered leg frames, might well have resisted the tendency to roll further than on its side. If the unhappy homeowner had only sprung for the real thing, he might have avoided a life sentence: the bench's unusual position following the attack (in which the victim's wife and daughters were killed, while he survived), and other factors, helped convince the jury that he had staged the attack !

finding a similar bench in a murder case.

While recreating the violent struggle did no one think to step on the bench leg as it toppled, stopping the momentum? Geesh!

Well, the
idea was "how would it fall in the heat of battle, with no one noticing it -- how would it end up ?"
The odd thing is, after the detectives had tried it 100 times, the defense counsel tried it once -- and it fell on its side. I think there was an armchair near it, and he put that into play. Weird . . . or not.
