Well, it is pricey, but I'm not wiping my jaw up off the floor or anything. If you do quality work, you deserve to make a healthy profit.
Now let me ask, because I've never seen one outfitted like the following: would it be possible to do an egg in a black snakeskin embossed vinyl on the bottom half, and, say, a tomato red slubby tweed on the upper/seat portion? I have the snakeskin vinyl (not funky junk -- actually quite classy in its way) and could probably find said tweed.
Just an idea I'm kicking around. I don't recall seeing any eggs with duo textile. I think it would look brilliant.
Not to knock anyones work her...
Not to knock anyones work here but I recovered a womb chair for 450 with my fabric from a good shop in Chicago. Then there is the most authentic shop to check out at the link below. LRF... does your work match or exceed B and K? How about redoing a parallel bar lounge chair from Knoll, in leather, with customers own material.

Oh and about knockoff womb...
Oh and about knockoff womb chairs, there were some on ebay a year ago. There must have been a short run of them from china or somewhere, and they looked poor. I would much rather have a good old shell anyday. Redone is fime if the right person hand sews the back cover on and gets the piping like the original.
Don
womb chair
B k work looks nice
Our prices(retro redo ) are very similar i only notice 50.00 difference
We do not charge a upcharge on our fabric we use maharam and knoll
my hats off to any one who can redo a
egg chair last count 722 hand stiches
and a sore sore hand. any price any one charges on that chair is not enough cost ...it is a very difficult chair to do at best... it must be hand sewn... No telling what Arne Jacobsen was thinking when he dreamed that one up .
I wonder
if it would be possible (as an alternative to a proper reupholstery) to spray or dip the Womb shell with some sort of self-skinning foam -- hopefully with a suede-like or fuzzy texture ? This would be along the lines of a "Twenty-first Century update" of the original design and its conventional technology.
