Hello, as mentioned on the recent thread about the sofa compact, I have just acquired two of them, which were apparently from the U Penn architecture department and both are in great shape. After investigating further, however, it seems that the foam in just the seat cushion may need replaced. The big questions then is:
What size piece? I measured and researched. It seems I would want a 72x18x2.5 inch piece of foam. Do we agree?
Secondly, what type of urethane foam and what density? I would very much like to use foam as close to the original as possible. If anyone has links to certain foam sources, feel free to share. Please share your insight and I am very thankful for any responses.
Kindly,
David

I don't know about density, but
foamsource.com and foamorder.com both carry many densities and will cut to exact dimensions. I've dealt with both and prefer foamsource.com (the other one screwed up the one thing I ordered from them once--could have been a fluke but why go back when the other one suffices?)
Generally, the thinner the cushion, the more dense it should be. Generally. And seat foam should be more dense than back foam because most of your weight is on the seat. That probably seems very obvious but you wouldn't believe how many times manufacturers and re-upholsterers get it wrong.
