Need a new desk chair, and I've always been tempted by those weird "kneeling" chairs. They seem unusually comfortable, when I try them out for thirty seconds at a time, in furniture showrooms, and at the Salvation Army.

(photo below just a randomly-acquired pic to show what I'm talking about-- not considering this particular chair, just one of this species)

Yeah, I had one of these when I was a kid. We used it as a desk chair (for the computer). I loved it - very comfortable.

Our's was more like the one picture here. (I think this one's the best looking one.)

Zippy
We had one for years. They're nice if you'll be sitting for long durations. For regular up and down activities, I'd suggest otherwise. I prefer the tradtional 4 legs and a seat for that very resaon.

I agree, Brbeard---
The 1970's style with the molded plywood base is better looking than the contemporary versions. But, I'd gladly sacrifice looks for comfort, in the case of a computer chair.

Here's a good-looking old-school version
currently for sale on Ebay. Looks great, but would I be happier with a new wheeled version, with pneumatic lift(?)... hmmm.

This thing looks insanely comfortable--
Stokke Gravity balans chair, from the Netherlandish people who brought you the original kneeling chair:

Yeah, me too. . .
I'd like to try that. I've been wondering about one of the kneelers myself -- never spent any time on one.

Just a small correction
Stokke is Norwegian and the designer: Peter Opsvik is norwegian to... so nothing dutch there

Stokke is the best
All our baby stuff - pram, change table etc is from Stokke. It's the BEST. And Koen is correct, it's Norwegian. The high chair -Tripp Trapp is inspiring. Its picked up a swag of design awards. The great thing about it is that it grows with the child, so eventually an adult can use it.

Balans
I had a Balans I bought at the local Scan store in Arlington. Early 80's I think. Thought it might help with a back problem. Never could get used to it. Gave it to the father in law.

I recently tossed one. Not at home but at work. It did get alot of use. Very
good for detail work and model making. Mostly got grimy and was under a
bench. Often in the way. I'm not sure when the wheels would be of use.
Once you are settled in, you would need your hands to manuver?
(or maybe the wheels are for kicking it out of the way? :))
In any event, it does seem a good alternative in addition to an ordinary chair.
Creates a different and often welcome posture change. I prefer working at
counter height so i never liked it much. The accountant office uses the big
rubber balls at their desks occasionally. Anyone glued to a computer needs
a change from the classic chair posture.
