I am curious if anyone here has ever attended on of these Danish modern auctions at Regal in New Hampshire.I would like to know because I am curious as to if there is deals to be had there.I've actually left absentee bids ,but have been told I was out bid by very minimal amounts.I want to attend the next one if there ever is one ,but don't want to waste my time if this stuff is selling for high premiums.I am interested if anyones actually found good deals there.
Ya Go
I have been to his sales before and plan on going in a month. He has a sale July 13th and 14th. There are plenty of deals to be had. The Finn Juhl and Wegner are always ut of my budget, but i am always able to leave with a good deal. I have talked to the auctioneer and he considers himself a danish wholesaler. Many things I see at his auctions sell to dealers and then are sold for 2 or 3 times more at Ragos or Wrights. This year the sale is at the end of Brimfield so one could actually go to both.
I attended the auction in...
I attended the auction in January this year. They certainly get some nice pieces from Denmark, but I found the hammer prices to be on the higher side. I did get the impression that there were some high end dealers there that use these auctions to stock up on pieces that they can then obviously turn around for a profit.
For your average joe who is just looking for some good deals on some Danish furniture, eBay and even etsy are more cost-effective options. However, if you live nearby, Franklin is a nice small New England town to visit, and auctions are always fun.
Prices going up
I've been going to their auctions for the past 3 years, and I'd say that word has gotten out, and prices are definitely going up. There used to be some pretty good deals to be had, and big dealers in particular could clean up. But there are more and more retail buyers going looking for just one or two pieces, and now prices are pretty close to what you'd pay in most stores. But if you're looking for high-end items, they do get some nice things, and then a lot of pedestrian pieces that need a little TLC. But if you like auctions and auction people, then it's worth the trip.
Auction this Saturday 27th nice stuff
Regal is having another Danish modern sale. Great stuff to be had. Just throwing this out there for anyone looking for something for home.

Review
Went last Sat and was thoroughly unimpressed, particularly with the prices. I know the value of a lot of that stuff and it wasn't doing anywhere near wholesale prices. I would be hard-pressed to call that a wholesale dealer auction. Auctioneer was making up bids to start the bidding off for every item as well. I wasn't fooled, and didn't buy a thing. I wasn't about to get caught up in the bidding. I'm assuming large dealers have some sort of a deal with the auctioneer that the more they buy, the bigger discount they get. 3 dealers in particular were buying EVERYTHING with no regard to what they were spending. If they are making a profit at what they were paying, god bless them. I've seen the same stuff sell for much less at other local auctions. That's a better bet for sure. I won't waste my time with this auction in the future. I had also heard that at their last auction, cosigners were bidding on their own items to bid the price up. Not cool. Nice stuff, just nothing at a reasonable price.
