Yes, perhaps the tidiness is appealing. As far as space saving - well, I can see how this set saves some space when not in use, but you still need to be able to sit down at it, and when people are seated at it, it would take up the same amount of space as any other similarly proportioned dining set - or wouldn't it?

I think the top is of a pretty modest diameter, rubbing elbows ... Its too small really to bring pots to the table.
