A small correction to the info in the Wright catalog:
The 'S' mark is not the distrubutors label, but a European safety marking used on electrical products to show that the product has been tested by a independent test lab. Today it is Intertek Semko who does the tests in Sweden.
sorry.
I am entering this thread pretty late in the game. I must have mised this one. So this link that was posted is an authentic grossman lamp? I have never seen one with the legs welded on the flip side of fixed leg like that.

Maybe its not real...
I just stumbled across this similar lamp...as far as the legs are concerned. The rest of the lamp is much different.

jdip - The lamp at Sotheby's is not an original, but probably one of the various copies made by Prescolite under the "Stylite" name.
I believe there is one original version of the Grasshopper with an almost identical configuration of the base to the Sotheby's lamp, but the design of the part where the shade attach should be identical to the other Grasshoppers made by Ralph O Smith (like the yellow lamp Pegboard posted).

lexi221 - as you suspect, your lamp is not a Grossman original. Still it looks a lot nicer than the ugly lamp at Rago...
I think your lamp is one of the Stylite versions, since they also used the same hinge for the shade. Although it was a quite common hinge on lamps of this period.
I find it amusing that Rago can't even get the name of the designer they're trying to attribute it to correct... "Greta Knudson Grossman". 🙂

Lexi221 came to DA for advice, but decided to not take the advice when the answer didn't fit his/her expectations.

Rago lamp not so ugly
Hey folks,
I'm just in the process of stripping my Greta Grossman STYLE lamp, when I found your forum. Thanks for the wonderful info, I was told by the mid century dealer in Vancouver - Metropolitan Home , that my version (and I guess Rago's) was an early to mid 50s Canadian version made in Toronto. I found the hardware switches were made in Canada so maybe there is some truth to this. I will finish the strip, then enamel paint it back to its original dark green. I know it may have different lines than the wonderful Grossman version but I think she's a beauty in her own way.

I decided to try and bring this back from the dead. I have nothing to lose. Yestersay I purchased this neglected old version grasshopper at the fleamarket. I have no doubt it is authentic. Unfortunately, i am not sure how I can source out the rest of the stuff. Even if I did source out an old authentic shade, I would still need the ball joint fitting, etc... I am hoping someone here has some good ideas? Also does anyone know if the Gubi made lamp is completely identical to the old version. I could go the hybrid way and order everything but the base from Gubi.
