I just bought a great book today it is just out
It is Frank Lloyd Wright Mid-Century modern and it is one fantastic book,
Now I have a total understanding of the home that I bought down to the new crap orchard stone,
I have bought many books on Amazon on Wright and some
have been nothing but old duds, with his homes we have seen for years in Illinois and Wisconsin but this one shows the homes he did the last 10 years of his life and for a old man he had these home designs perfect
I can see why all the architects of this era had respect for him as a artist..
As you are aware he was a very complex person and was not very well liked by anyone even as architect
His fellow architects have been quoted as saying "terrific artist" "lousy architect" this stems from the engineering part of the process that he really never cared to get involved in, he left that to others to clean up the details like windows that would leak or roof lines that would not touch, or futuristic materials that he dreamed up in the 40's and 50's that where not available ,
One of the great quotes if you have ever lived in Frank Lloyd wright home that is the last one you will
ever want to live in,
any way this book has great pictures and great homes that i have never seen in any other books,

I think
your stone is dandy, even if it doesn't have Wright's random projecting stones. Wright used many diferent kinds of stone, depending (ideally) on what was native to the area. Wright might question the mixture of stone and brick in your house -- but you were planning to replace all the brick with stone, eventually, right . . .? (I'm not sure Wright would have centered the house number in oversized italics, underlined, no less -- but, hey, he's dead !)
Don't worry about it. Just enjoy those great pictures, and dream. . .

SDR since you do know...
SDR since you do know alot about wright I think you made a few good points on my house,
I think
your stone is dandy, even if it doesn't have Wright's random projecting stones.
I Know I was going to do a protruding band around every 16 inches like he did on a lot of his houses, but something got lost in the communications between me and the head brick layer that was my fault cause when i gave him the picture he said oh that would have been no big deal
Wright used many diferent kinds of stone, depending (ideally) on what was native to the area.
this part is not necessarily true crap orchard stone that he loved is found in the Cumberland region of Tennessee and parts of Arkansas so that home in did in Carmel Ca they had to truck this stone a long way, and he used crap orchard a lot in the houses up north, now that stone was very popular in the mid century starting in 45 till the mine went barren in 66 other small veins have been found since , but they are small and some is still coming out of Arkansas on the border of Tennessee (i did the research to find this stuff)
Wright might question the mixture of stone and brick in your house
--even though i am going to change it all
to crap orchard when i can get another truck load
i noticed in the new book that he did stone and brick every where, i was really surprised how many times he used the mix, I just want it all the same
but you were planning to replace all the brick with stone, eventually, right . . .?yes
(I'm not sure Wright would have centered the house number in oversized italics, underlined, no less -- but, hey, he's dead !) ...yep and no telling what he would think
Don't worry about it. Just enjoy those great pictures, and dream. . . thanks
get the book it has some great pictures you for one will really like this one since you know so much about Wright..
I did find out that he and Bruce Goff who was the dean at OU school of architecture in the 50 taught Wrights principles and they were very close friend, I was in a Goff home on Friday small but like nothing you have ever seen .
it was in Bartelsville Ok and a solid skylight from one end of the house to the other ,
