In 2007 my Grandmother passed away and I decided to keep some of her furniture that included Brown Saltman and Lane. These chairs however, I have never been able to put a design to. I took to the internet best I could and for a moment I thought they were part of the Milo Baughman collection. I was then told that he only used a round plinth base on his chairs and as you can see, these are 5-star base.
There are no tags anywhere and I certainly cant remember if any where ever on them. I'm 42 years old and remember these chairs as far back as I remember, probably even before I was born.
It's an upholstered swivel tub chair, and it looks very tired. Pretty much every upholstery company offers something similar. This one is slightly unusual for its tufted semi-attached wrap-around back cushion, but as you can see, it has aged poorly. It would require far more expense to refreshen than it would ever be worth, and it's therefore likely to not be particularly compelling to most people. Its design value looks to be not super high, so the question of whether a "designer" existed or can be named seems kind of a moot point
but eye of the beholder and whatnot
While not my taste, they are not totally devoid of appeal. If you decide not to keep them, donate them to a charity shop or put them up for free on Craigslist. Someone may like them or not have the luxury of pickiness about furniture. No sense in wasting something someone else might use . . .
