I have finally finished the reupholstery project. My grandfather's Papa Bear chair has been meticulously restored. It lived up to its reputation as a challenging piece to reupholster. It is all upholstery tacks, hard to stretch compound curves, and hand stitching. Thought everyone would appreciate seeing the end result. Oh, and the fabric is Maharam Voyage in Lead.
Maharam Voyage (100% wool). The Lead color has been discontinued, but it is very similar to the current Quarry color.

It must be satisfying to see it finished. Especially since it has personal importance to you.
It is a great chair.Absolutely one of the most comfortable chairs I have sat in. The Papa Bear is actually the only one I have tried but I think all the AP chairs Wegner made look good. .
Let me get this straight. Did you do the work yourself ??? If so, that is pretty astounding.
Well maybe not just for me. I kind of view this place as a repository of knowledge to let all kinds of people store their experience.
I don't think I would have overcome my sizeable inertia if Spanky and some other guys hadn't posted their own stuff. In my better moments, I have considered documenting some caning project so that others can see how it looks.
I think these should go under the heading "Repairs" with all the descriptors that would allow others to find the right chair. But those are just my thoughts.
Maybe we should get the site admin involved. Anybody else out there interested in this?
