Other than the Colombo 2 and B&O, is there anyone out there who makes a good looking cordless home phone. Everything I've come across looks like cheap plastic crap. There are a few decent designs by Phillips, but other than that I'm not having much luck.

Design would be swell
but, heck, find one that actually works. I'd taken usability over looks in this case.
I've gone through four different crummy systems (Panasonic, Uniden and now I'm trying V-tech) All are ugly, but will this new one work for awhile????
The Uniden I dumped is loses volume everytime to press a button to advance through someone's menu.

hmm
Now that is a category that doesn't get much press.
I look every now and again.
Maybe the Jacob Jensen80 could be on the list?
Colombo Two would be my first choice.
I need something by mid June. It needs to be small with a decent range.
Back pocket small and simple flip open answering, key pad dialing.
Like my old favorite Startac cell. Waterproof would be nice! Yeah, good luck.
Like this Vtec if the phone was the small charcoal rectangle on the right. (link at bottom)
(The so called 'designer series' from GE, Panasonic etc seem designed to match
that pen and pencil/clock set given at retirement for years of good service.)
Or just oddly stylish with a bit of gloss or stainless peel-n-stick facing.
I do have a Uniden set, bought like a carton of eggs without study in a panic when we moved.
The package looked like a plastic egg crate. Those eggs are hidden and only bought for 4 elderly
parents that need land lines. I don't even know the phone number.

No need for a home phone...
I'm sticking with my iphone, so far I'm happy with it, it's my all in one.

V-tech
It's actually made of metal!
The additional handsets communicate to the main handset via wireless so you just need to plug it to an electrical outlet... not a phone jack.

Duh, yes. When it comes to electronics, it's how the thing WORKS rather than how it LOOKS. I'm amazed that anyone would consider how a piece of electronics looks, rather than how it actually works.
Once you find a company that makes a product that WORKS, then you start to consider its design.
When it comes to electronics, this is elementary.
I love great design, but I'm not going to spend thousands of dollars for B&O audio equipment, as an example, when I've read that their equipment is underpowered.

The intent
is to find form that functions.
The intent is to eliminate the attachment to a cord restricting movement.
The technology has existed for some time.
Where did all the designers go?
Has someone come up with a simple cordless phone that function well and
doesn't look like plastic crap from the toy isle at your local grocery?
Nothing wrong with that question.
And thank you Joel. It is hard to internet shop without seeing in person the
actual phone. Vtec seems to add a bit of form to function.
iphones are fine. Many remote places rely on land lines. No cell service.
that puts the iphone off topic.

Slim vtech, slim battery life
I have the nice lookng vtech dect 6.0 as shown in the link above. I find that if I don't keep it always in the charger, I run out of battery quickly. So, I end up using my big fat (unattractive) Uniden, which seems to hold a charge longer. I suggest checking battery life specs before you buy a phone.

Honestly, I would love to select
audio, video gear and other electronics solely by their design, but this doesn't guarantee you would be selecting electronics that are quality made and will do the job.
My new Vtech phone with 4 additional receivers is OK looking, but its appearance was not the deciding factor.
My Sony Bravia 32" HD TV looks like the competitors TVs, but I wanted quality so I bought my Sony.
In the main, I accept the standard look of electronics and pay more attention to the features (hopefully) the quality.
My electronic stuff looks about as nice as other people's.
As you can tell, I've had enough bad experiences with electronics, that their design is the least of my concerns!

There have been many...
There have been many beautifully designed electronics over the years that also work well. Dieter Rams and Reinhold Weiss designs for Braun, Brionvega designs by Bellini, Castiglioni Zanusso, and Sapper, Olivetti Typewriters and calculators by Bellini and Sottssas......Bang and Olufsen Stereos, etc. Even today's Braun inspired Apple designs are lovely. It seems to me, though, that phones have been overlooked. Whatever happened to the good old days of Grilo and Ericofons?

a sweet Dieter Rams for Braun graveyard on my bedroom shelf. I have them all finally
telling the correct time but the alarms are shot. I am glad i have them.

A decent looking option from Philips....at least the analog clock shows some thought went into design. The Jensen & B&O options are nice....but a bit more expensive.
