OK, I know the debate about knock-offs, which I appreciate. Beyond the (valid and interesting) debate, does anyone know sources for decent replicas.

I am at a life stage where the real deal could be significantly disfigured in short order and I don't want the heartbreak.

I have 3 yr old twins and a 5 yr old. They are all over everything and pretty rough. The bench would sit at the end of my bed and, no doubt, be play-station central. Lots of super-hero rescues. Cliff jumping. Car races.

I can afford a HM Bench, but I am thinking it may be a waste of money at this stage. The 5' HM version is $729, which is real money to me. Spending $275 on a place-holder that can be craigslisted in a couple years doesn't sound like a bad idea. Plus, I can use the extra money towards a real-deal LCW, which can go in a more public and less kid crazy part of my house.

My ability to actually see/touch/compare knock-offs IRL to the real-deal is non-existent. I am assuming that all reproductions, even with the correct dimensions, are not created equal. Are there manufacturers with better craftsmanship than others? I don't want junk, however cheap. If so, does anyone have recommendations?

Thanks.

American Modern Furniture
A friend of mine who is a Herman Miller dealer and seen these products firsthand and is very complimentary. I think the finish is slightly different. I have heard it looks more vintage like. The prices are great. One thing though - they do not spend enough dough on the packaging. Another friend ordered a bench and it came cracked. He said that they only put a thin roll of protection. However, they were more than accommodating and have sent someone to pick up the other and bring a replacement.

whitespike is right !!! thes...
whitespike is right !!! these companies that send this stuff out use cheap packing for some reason.
I am sure most of this stuff comes from China in a container but you would imange that at some warehouse either in California or New Jersey they would make sure that they are well packed but they are not.
I did order a Nelson Bench for the office and I had to have one of the guys that works for our company completely reinforce the bench cause it wobbled real bad and i was afraid if someone set there ass on it, it would break He re drilled the holes and used screws were the original used tacks . so just beware if you have the little kids that you think will be jumping off the bench be aware of that little threat.

Something to look for.
Early on we ordered at replica bench that didn't have finger joints on the legs and ended up on my butt with a broken bench leg. I believe it was produced by Alphaville Design. Finger jointed legs, like the Herman Miller, should take that worry away.
