Took a friend to lunch for his birthday today, and as we approached a rotary, there was an Eames armshell chair just sitting there sitting on the roadside in front of a house."Happy Birthday",I exclaimed as we pulled over to load it into the car.It wasn't a rope edge, but, what the heck,it was in decent shape.

Define "Eames stuff", please.
Killian: Do you mean just the fiberglass shells, or everything he ever designed including his house, or something else?

Dissing eames?
seriously?
Hundreds of designers after there time have created many things hoping to come close to what they accomplished, they are two of the best in the history of modern design.
to not have respect and call them over rated just means your ignorant.
You probably have many things in your house that are made by designers going for the eames look.
Eames is just one of the many collected names like
Saarinen
Nugachi
Paul McCobb
(even though you can get it at DWR you should still have love for the roots of it all if your truly into mid century/ modern design.

Most of it really, there are ...
Most of it really, there are very few if any items bearing (sic) the Eames name that I would aspire to own. The odd early chair and maybe the ESU are about the only pieces I like but I doubt I will ever buy any of their work.

MadHaus....are you trying to ...
MadHaus....are you trying to tell me Im wrong or are you conversing with me ??
To me the simple fact you just named those few names in your argument says to me that you have hardly scratched the surface of the design world.

You are wrong
[cross post]
Killian has a great working knowledge of Mid Century design and is entitled to his persoanl opinions
I'm sure he'll be here to answer for himself, but don't put people down for their opinions- just because people's taste differs from your own doesn't mean they lack knowledge.

In kind words
I have been studying design for many years and do know a good amount about it, I just named what i would call the popular names that are typical for anybody new in the design world to collect
Im not at all saying that you Don't know things... im sure you know plenty, possibly more then me about design.
the Eames are just like a famous musician, when you first got into that musician you where all about it, and when they started getting popular and sold out, so now you claim to not really like them or listen to them.
Eames stuff sold out many years ago to schools and many homes, then it died down and now its back again.
Even though its popular its still some of the greatest designed materials and furniture ever made, according to many people, and museums.
I know they are not the greatest out there, and there are some designers even from the early 1900's that should be considered greater then the eames, but...
the Eames just did it right for that time.
Yes....the shell chairs are over produced popular and not so glamorous,
but they where a change in the design world, that evolved many other designers to do greater things.
thats why putting them down is wrong.
Not trying to fight you about your opinion, in fact i slightly agree with you that they are all over the place and seeing them isnt a huge gasp for me anymore.
But i will still fall in love with any Authentic Eames Lounge Chair and ottoman that comes before my eyes.
