I thought I'd share my solution for glides for my Bertoia chairs. I read here that the eBay clear glides with felt on the bottom tend to shift and that people weren't happy with them. I bought 1/2" black vinyl tubing from Home Depot and cut it to length, then cut a slit and fit it to the bottom rail of the chair. The slit should be cut on the inner side of the curve so that the tubing hugs the rail tightly. Seems to work so far, and doesn't look bad. I was worried that it would shift, but it doesn't seem to. They also had clear tubing. Here are some pictures.

We buy...
I go to Lowes and buy the clear plastic flexible pipe in the plumbing section and cut it to length.
then cut it down the line so it "hugs" the entire length.
It works well because then you have the entire base covered on the bottom, but the pipe is actually a smaller circumference than the base - the result is that it covers the bottom of the base pipe, and the side, but not the top so you do not even notice it.
Or go on ebay and buy the real things for pennies...
how's this tubing working out?
I can confirm those plastic ebay glides are worthless (if anyone wants some I'll gladly mail them away). I like this tubing idea - what if the tubing was cut down to simulate the glides at the four corners? I wonder how the authentic Bertoia glides work?
