Anyone know if this is an authentic Gino Sarfatti lamp? I picked it up at a thrift store, as you can see its in need of a restoration. I notice similarities between my lamp and lamps from Sarfatti but the shades are mounted differently.

Here you go
This seller sites a reference so i assume it is actually by lightolier. Don't get so hyped with the price as all these 1st dibs dealers think they have uncovered gold. It is an awesome lamp though. I am jealous. I would have had a grin from ear to ear if I found that.

Ah thanks, that was fast! I knew I seen the design before and it wasn't a Sarfatti. Now I know. That price is ridiculous, anyone ever see one sell? Do you guys think I should polish it all up? It is brass, which I was shocked by. Needs new wire too.

lightolier
lamps tend to be solid brass and shine up beautifully. I have a couple of the walnut sleeve floor lamps that I was amazed at the difference post buffing.

I wouldn't buff it up to much
and certainly wouldn't touch the shades and laquered parts.
keep it as original as possible.

I don't think I will polish it up to much, looking at it over night I like the patina on the lamp. I may redo the base as it is pretty bad. I am treating the shades like a car, so I am cleaning all the cigarette tar and paint rubs then buffing the paint to give it a shine. It looks pretty good after just a little cleaning.

patina is one thing
grime is another. It's a choice we all make. The stems on the 2 lamps I had were black/blue with grime and hand marks. The patina will develop over time, I'm cool with that. Better my grime then someone else's

Agreed. I just gathered a few vintage curtain panels for the kitchen and bathroom. They looked and smelt clean...as soon as the soapy water hit them...it turned black...Just got to say GROSS!! who knows what all that grime is. Thats the problem with vintage pieces from the era of recreational smoking lol
