I'm in my late 20's, living in Boston, and just randomely started up a little hobby. I've been visiting local Estate sales and have purchased some beautiful and original Mid-Century Modern designs. I'm really excited about my finds, and more-so, becoming increasingly interested in this style of design.

I would love to make some contacts to learn more about the buying/selling, building clients, networking, and to just learn more about this beautiful era of unique furniture and style in general. I'm in love! Has anyone opened up their own business and has a success story? I would love to hear stories from people. How do you make contacts? Who should I be reaching out to? Help! I think this is my calling 🙂

Thank you!!

Trade secrets?
Congratulations on your new venture. Buy the man dinner first, then he'll drop some knowledge 🙂 Good luck!

Instead of flowers,
I suggest you court him with a nice little Knoll table and he might just tell you where the magic dumpster is located.

Well,
Thanks for the tips guys. This is super helpful information here. Maybe I'll just skip dinner and flowers all together, and cut right to the chase.

Hi Jesus
Oh, wait, it's Jsous.
I live in Boston and have been dealing in furniture on the side for about 5 years now, almost exclusively in MCM. Give me a shout on the old email: Lucifer Sum At Y ahoo Do TCom.
The short story is that it's fun - but it is a LOT of work and there is some VERY good competition. But give me a shout and we'll talk.
And as for the rest of you - NO MAGIC DUMPSTER FOR YOU!

the magic dumpester
I like the term and think that 15 20 years ago it was very much so the magic dumpster times. I recall seing a CH23 chair sticking out of a dumpster and took a closer look to find no 1 but 6 including the Saber leg dining table by wegner to go with it.
Ohhh what a day. I had it in my living room for several years until some one snook several large notes under my nose.
As for the magic dumpster I think it more resides in the collective minds of lucifersum, myself, LHR and many others who have a wealth of info that we share here every day.
So Jebus have a ball, believe in carma and you will be just fine. be prepared for a VERY competitative market though.
Simon

Magic Dumpster
Wow, that's a great pic, uasrem2. I've heard rumors of the magic dumpster all my life, but never had I seen a photo until now. The guardian unicorn too... Amazing.

It takes 17 muscles to smile and 43 to frown...
Thank you gents for smiling.
To discuss Art, Architecture, & Design devoid of humor trivializes humanity who inspired their invention.
